Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Burr Steers

I'll give Burr Steers' Pride and Prejudice and Zombies this: it improves on Jane Austen's original novel by actually explaining why that militia was nearby. But other than that, the film simply isn't worth watching. Those who enjoyed Seth Grahame-Smith's parody novel will be disappointed to discover that the film only takes maybe the first third of the book and uses it as a springboard to do something else. It adds a new plot about how there are some trying to save zombies who haven't been fully zombified...and then there's something about the literal Hour Horsemen of the Apocalypse rising from the grave? It's all very contrived and boring. It's not even that gory. What's the point of doing a zombie version of a great novel if the zombie violence isn't preposterous?
